Introducing the next era of Duende IdentityServer.
At Duende, we build identity infrastructure with care. Our team combines deep standards and protocol expertise with disciplined engineering to deliver the most extensible and customizable identity solutions.
We design with the precision and standards-based rigor critical systems demand, giving development teams the flexibility to shape identity without compromising stability or reliability.

In 2009, Dominick Baier was implementing security systems for customers and kept noticing the same problem: every organization needed a token service, and everyone was building it from scratch. So he wrote a framework consisting of a humble collection of seven files called StarterSTS.
Around the same time, Dominick reconnected with Brock Allen, a .NET and application security specialist. They shared a belief that identity infrastructure should be built with precision, with standards, and with developers in mind.
From Side Project to Standard.

From side project to standard.

Over a decade of relentless iteration, Brock and Dominick built something remarkable: an open-source OpenID Connect and OAuth 2.0 framework that gave developers something no SaaS product could: complete control.
The .NET community took notice. IdentityServer became part of the .NET Foundation. Microsoft adopted it as the token plumbing for their Angular, React, and Blazor templates. Downloads surpassed twelve million on NuGet.

As IdentityServer adoption grew, so did the need for a sustainable model to support production systems worldwide. The organizations relying on IdentityServer for mission-critical systems deserved more than a passion project, they deserved infrastructure with a foundation as solid as the software itself.
Duende Software was born as the commercial home for IdentityServer, built to support enterprise-grade customers without sacrificing the developer control that made the original project iconic. From the start, the goal was simple: help developers build identity systems the right way. Over the past decade, that work—and the contributions of a growing team of engineers and identity experts—has helped shape how modern identity systems are built.
The name came to Brock during a sleepless night watching a Miles Davis documentary - the Spanish word duende, meaning the heightened state of authenticity that comes from performing your craft at the highest level.
Today
Today, Duende remains closely connected to the .NET developer community that shaped its origins. We serve over 2,500 customers across development teams and organizations; more than half operate in highly regulated industries, from financial services and healthcare to government and defense. Our team continues to grow, through partnership with Serent Capital and leadership to scale our capabilities and reach. Through it all, the mission has been our constant: We bring the craft to identity, so you can focus on yours.

We combine deep secure identity expertise with decades of experience in enterprise technology, security, and software infrastructure to guide and protect identity infrastructure across organizations.
We’re always looking for people who treat identity infrastructure as a craft. If you care about secure design, protocol rigor, and building infrastructure that powers critical systems worldwide, we’d love to hear from you.
